Relationship Manager – Government Banking

Job Purpose

To build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, departments, and institutions. You will be a crucial liaison between the bank and various government entities to promote our products, services, and solutions. Your role will involve understanding the specific needs of government clients, providing excellent customer service, and working collaboratively with internal teams to ensure the successful implementation and delivery of projects.


Business portfolio growth and retention of customers where he/she is expected to open CASA generating accounts in short-term and long-term deposit placement with government institutions.

Key Responsibilities/Tasks
Relationship Management:
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers, influencers, and stakeholders within government agencies and institutions.
· Act as the main point of contact for government clients, addressing their inquiries, concerns, and requests promptly and professionally.
· Regularly meet with government officials to understand their evolving needs, challenges, and strategic objectives.
· Provide feedback to client, even if query or complaints has not been resolved yet.
· Work closely with customer service teams, responding to complex servicing requests and complaints for customers.


Business Development:
· Identify new business opportunities within the government sector and create strategies to expand our presence in this market.
· Gather all the required information that is needed to prepare and assess credit applications. Role holder will be expected to input certain key information such as judgmental information. (They will work with Credit Analysts and Operational bankers to construct credit application)
· Collaborate with the sales team to develop proposals, bids, and tender responses for government projects.
· Participate in business development activities such as conferences, seminars, and trade shows to network with government representatives.
· Adopt a commercial approach to cost control and income generation.
· Conduct annual and if appropriate, interim reviews of customers borrowing facilities.
· Conduct annual and if appropriate, interim reviews with non-borrowing customers.

Product and Service Promotion:
· Determine the products that are most effective in meeting customer’s needs and be able to sell these at short notice bot reactively and proactively.
· Educate government clients about our business model, products, services, and solutions, showcasing how they align with their requirements and contribute to their objectives.
· Provide product demonstrations and presentations tailored to the specific needs of government institutions.


Market Research and Analysis:
· Conduct market research to understand the competitive landscape and trends within the government sector.
· Analyse data and identify areas of growth and potential challenges.

Project Coordination:
· Work closely with internal teams, including sales, marketing, and technical departments, to ensure smooth project execution and delivery to government clients.
· Oversee project timelines, deliverables, and ensure compliance with government regulations and policies.

Compliance and Legal:
· Creating awareness, keep up-dale and comply with Know Your Client (KYC) and Anti Money Laundering (AML) regulations.
· Stay updated on relevant government policies, regulations, and compliance requirements.
· Ensure customer information is kept confidential and only released to the right person.
· Ensure that all interactions with government institutions align with legal and ethical standards.

Risk Management:
· Coordinate the review of risk control self-assessments (RCSA) for the Unit in liaison with COO and Head of Risk.
· Develop, update and maintain risk procedures and systems with respect to risk identification, risk assessment, risk monitoring, risk mitigation strategies and risk reporting.
· Ensure effective adoption and utilization of risk management tools.
· Drive remediation of risk management exceptions identified during audit or risk reviews
· Promote risk management culture.

Audit:
· Monitor and attend to audit (internal and external) queries and recommendations related to Relationship Management.

Academic / Professional Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Actuarial, Public Administration or a related field. A Master’s degree or other professional qualifications is a plus.
· Proven experience as a Relationship Manager, Account Manager, or in a similar role, preferably working with government institutions.

Working Experience Required
· A minimum of 5 years of working experience as Relationship Manager or Senior Officer level.
